Sangria
Sangria descends from centuries of Spanish and Portuguese wine punches, named for its blood-red color, and made properly it is far more than fruit floating in wine. The secret is time: the fruit must sit in the wine and brandy long enough to trade flavors.
You'll need:
1 bottle Spanish red (Garnacha works beautifully)
2 oz brandy
1 orange and 1 apple, sliced
1 tbsp sugar
Splash of soda water
Stir everything but the soda, chill at least four hours, and serve over ice with the soda splashed in at the end.
