The Cosmopolitan
The Cosmo as we know it was perfected in 1980s Manhattan, where Toby Cecchini balanced citrus vodka against fresh lime and just enough cranberry to blush. A certain television show made it the most famous drink of the nineties, but underneath the fame is a genuinely great sour.
You'll need:
1.5 oz citrus vodka
1 oz Cointreau
0.75 oz fresh lime juice
1 oz cranberry juice
Shake hard with ice, strain into a chilled coupe, and finish with a flamed orange twist. It should be pale pink, not red.
