In the World of Coffee

Legend places the Americano in wartime Italy: American GIs found espresso too intense, so bartenders lengthened it with hot water until it drank like the filter coffee of home. Italians named the result for its audience, and it stuck. Done right it is not diluted espresso but a different drink: the same dark depth unfolded, gentler and longer, made for lingering rather than standing at the bar. Our Americano candle takes the long pour: fresh-brewed coffee softened with cashmere and sandalwood.
