London, 1983: a young model asks bartender Dick Bradsell for a drink that would, in her words, wake her up and then some. He pulled a fresh espresso, shook it with vodka and coffee liqueur, and invented the modern era's favorite nightcap. The crema from a real shake gives it that signature foam crown. You'll need: 2 oz vodka 1 oz fresh espresso, cooled slightly 0.5 oz coffee liqueur 0.25 oz simple syrup Shake very hard with ice, double strain into a chilled coupe, and garnish with three coffee beans: health, wealth, and happiness.
